NAMASOS: Nanomagnets by Self-Organisation

SPECIFIC TARGETED  RESEARCH OR INNOVATION PROJECT

Sixth Framework Programme Priority 3: NMP

Project Specification

Contract no.: STRP  505854-1  NAMASOS

Activity Areas: NMP-2002-3.4.1.1.2 - Self-organisation and self-assembly
NMP-2002-3.4.2.3-2 - Surface and interface science and engineering

Main Objective

The main objective of this project is the development of a technology for the fabrication of highly ordered magnetic nanopatterns applicable for ultra-high density magnetic storage. The key issue is the use of self-organised processes to fabricate simultaneously large areas of ordered nanomagnet patterns. In addition to the process know-how for the fabrication of these magnetic quantum dots (MQDs), a large body of nanoanalytic investigation, concerning magnetic behaviour, structure and composition of the dots, should be performed, accompanied by the development and tribological characterisation of protective layers.
